Unsure about our process? Want to know more about how we keep our customer's homes clean whilst still getting the job done? Just want to know if that battered old floor in the study can really be saved?
This page is all about answering the questions that we get asked most often. Of course, you're also welcome to ask us directly by giving us a call on 020 3151 7950 or by sending an e-mail to floorsandinganerley@gmail.com. You can also reach the Anerley Floor Sanding Company through our online contact form .
ARE ANY FLOORS BEYOND SAVING?
There might be a floor or two out there in Anerley, SE20 that even we can't do something for. Fortunately, this is a very rare occurrence. The simple fact is that wooden floors often look far worse than they actually are. One of the most enjoyable moments of the job, in fact, is viewing the surprise on the faces of customers when they see just how quickly we can turn their scratched, mucky floor back into a pristine example of craftsmanship.
SANDING...HMM, DOESN'T THAT MEAN DUST EVERYWHERE?
Once upon a time, it probably did. Fortunately, we’ve always ensured that we stay cutting edge in terms of the machinery that we use. Our sanding machines are specially constructed to absolutely minimise the amount of dust that's allowed to escape. We also always tape off the room being worked in to ensure that the minimal amount of dust that is generated stays within the one area.
MY PARTNER IS A DIY FANATIC, COULDN'T THEY DO THE SANDING?
Theoretically, they probably could. However, as with all DIY, there’s a difference between ‘sanding a floor’ and ‘sanding a floor well’! The simple fact is that floor sanding is a skill that requires years of experience to perfect: something that our technicians have mastered after hours and hours working at their craft. It's extremely easy to create uneven finishes and scratches if you don't know what you're doing, and these repairs will cost far more to fix than simply hiring professionals to get it right first time. The professional approach always pays off.
HOW LONG DOES THE PROCESS TAKE ?
This is something that varies according to what condition the floor is in, as well as how big it is. However, a normal floor sand and finish will usually take around one day to complete, with a further day to apply your chosen finish. It will then need a short while to ‘cure’ before the room is useable again. Our quotes, needless to say, never change, even if the job takes a bit longer than expected. However long it takes, you pay the exact amount stated on the original estimate.
HOW DO I KNOW YOUR COMPANY CAN BE TRUSTED ?
We take our profession seriously. We're members of both the Guild of Master Craftsmen and the National Wood Flooring Association. As well as this, we're Junckers approved maintenance contractors. Never ever settle for anything less than the highest levels of professional service, which is exactly what we provide.
IS THERE MUCH BETWEEN DIFFERENT MAINTENANCE PRODUCTS?
As a general rule, no. Varnish, wax and oils are all popular with different customers, and there’s very little to choose between them other than the fact that some look better with particular woods. Wax and varnish offer an increased layer of protection that oil doesn't, but oil only has to be re-applied once a year or so, so takes less effort to maintain. We’ll happily discuss the best finish to use with you as part of our free, no-obligation consultation. All of the finishes we use are eco-friendly and non-toxic.
WHO CARRIES OUT THE WORK?
The actual sanding is carried out by our skilled technicians, each of whom combines years of experience with a genuine passion for their work. The other areas of our process - the consultation and the initial call - are taken care of by our managers and customer service team respectively.
HOW LONG WILL MY NEW FLOOR LAST?
This can vary depending on how well it’s maintained. We wouldn't pretend that a customer who takes the time to maintain and clean their new floor on a regular basis won't end up with a longer lasting product. However, even those floors that have been essentially left to rot have lasted at least four years! Any customer who's prepared to carry out a bit of maintenance (perhaps with the aid of our free cleaning kit) should get decades of use out of the floor.
